Osaka, Japan - On September 17 this container closed on a load of menstrual cups and tampons at our Shandong plant: small cartons stacked to the roof, every label facing out. We load small items like these first, and we count them twice. The second count happens with the doors still open, right before sealing. The box sails from Qingdao Port to the Port of Osaka.
How are cups and tampons packed inside the container?
The cups go into their boxes with a pouch and an instruction leaflet each. Tampons get packed in printed cartons, sorted by absorbency. Both then ride in the middle of the load, with heavier cartons on either side to hold them in place. In the photo the cup cartons are the smaller columns in the centre. We put them there on purpose.
Which period care lines were loaded?
The cup side went to three shelves: Plastic Menstrual Cups and soft silicone menstrual cup for retail, organic period cup for a natural-store program, and menstrual cup for light flow with ultra soft menstrual cup to round out the range. Tampons took the other half of the order. Biodegradable Tampon covers the eco end, organic cotton tampons with plastic applicator and organic tampons regular and super went to the mainstream shelf, and Plastic Tampon with organic core tampons supply two value chains.
How do we keep medical-grade quality across small items?
Ask our QC crew where a small item can fail, and they point to the print first. So cups and tampons run through the same three-stage routine as pads: materials in, on-line checks, and a final carton inspection. On a tampon carton the absorbency level has to read exactly right, and the inspectors know a misprinted box becomes the buyer's compliance problem, not ours.
